Dr Jan Krir DC, BA, MSc, CCEP

Doctor of Chiropractic & Clinic Director

Jan Palpating Alan's neck face onJan Krir is no longer in practise at the Avenue Clinic but she still runs the clinic administration. She has a wealth of knowledge that she uses to update the website regularly with posts and Newsletters to help you understand your problem and to let you know if we can help you. She believes that back pain should not be a lifetime problem and believes that through education and understanding, patients can gain control of their back pain.

I graduated from the prestigious Anglo European College of Chiropractic in 1979. After a year in London, I settled in Southampton with the aim of building a practice that would deliver a service to patients that was of the very highest quality based on the most up to date and well researched techniques and treatment protocols. I studied for a post graduate Masters Degree which I obtained in 2000 and I still spend a lot of time checking new research to be able to give the best possible service to my patients. My aim was to build a clinic based on being honest with patients about what I could achieve and treating them only as often as I thought their particular condition required. I think that by giving patients  more control over their problem you have greater confidence so reducing the likelihood that the pain will keep coming back… and the less treatment you will require! This philosophy is one shared by all of the people that work at the Clinic. The Avenue Clinic is  renowned as a centre of excellence and all of us here work hard to maintain the high standard that is our reputation. We conduct regular  surveys to check that we are meeting patients’ expectations and frequently we are told that we have exceeded them! However, if you come across any aspect of your visit to the clinic that you think we could improve, we would welcome your input. Chiropractic has changed in the last 30 years and keeping up with new developments is important to me. I attend many courses, seminars and lectures every year as well reading journals and research papers in order to help keep me up to date to deliver the best, most evidence based care I can. I developed low back pain myself years ago and so I can fully empathise with sufferers! I know from first hand experience just how important regular treatment is, combined with exercises and advice on how to best go about your daily life without irritating your back. I believe that any profession is only as good as its members and I have worked in several voluntary roles over my 33 years in practice. I was a British Chiropractic Association Council member and I was Vice-President of the British Chiropractic Association for two years. I was one of the first people registered with the General Chiropractic Council. I have acted as an expert witness in disciplinary hearings for the General Chiropractic Council and I was Chair of the Conference Committee and Membership Committees of the BCA.I used to I teach in the Anglo European College of Chiropractic Clinic in Bournemouth, helping final year students in their clinical decision making.

Verity Moore DC, MSc (Chiro)

Doctor of Chiropractic

Verity ClinicVerity Moore has a special interest in acute neck and back pain and also sports injuries.  She has a lot of experience of taking care of women during pregnancy – both during and after pregnancy. She uses a range of techniques selected specifically for each patient. Health and fitness has always been important to her and from an early age she has been exposed to a variety of sporting activities as her father managed a sports centre.

I attained my Masters degree with merit from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic after completing a full time 5-year course. Health and fitness has always been important to me and from an early age I have been exposed to a variety of sporting activities as my father managed a sports centre. In the past I have worked with a Wessex League football team travelling to away games which was muddy, but rewarding. I enjoy helping people with chiropractic care to maintain good health when playing sports. Treating people of all ages, from babies to geriatrics, I use a range of techniques selected specifically for each patient.

Martin Krir D.C.

Doctor of Chiropractic

mak

Martin has a wealth of experience, having been a chiropractor for over 25 years. He uses both McTimoney techniques and also manipulation, as required. He ran his own successful practice for all of this time, whilst at the same time working in close collaboration with local GP’s. They formed a team that worked together in order to ensure the most effective ways to treat back and joint pain. He relocated to Southampton and joined the Avenue Clinic a year ago part time and we are delighted that he has now agreed to take over Richard Barton’s patient list from June 2016. He attends courses regularly to make sure that he remains at the cutting edge of knowledge and implements evidence based practice when treating. He uses a gentle, effective method of treatment and aims to relieve patients of their pain in as short a time as possible. He tailors his treatment specifically for every patient.

Dr Damon Murgatroyd

Osteopathy

Damon photo I am proud to have been associated with the Avenue Clinic for the past several years, and the wide range of health spinal and counselling services provided there. I myself am a registered osteopath and orthopaedic physician, able to treat in both holistic and traditional ways (including injections). I feel that the spinal and joint care services offered by my chiropractic colleagues in this clinic are both effective and safe, which means that patients have excellent treatment from the two disciplines. It is important to note that despite the subtle differences between osteopathy and chiropractic, we all strive to help our patients to achieve optimum comfort and function in their daily lives.

Cristina Palici Bsc (Hons) LicAc MBAcC

Acupuncturist and Tui Na practitioner

CristinaI qualified as an acupuncturist from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, having trained in both 5 Element and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). I find the view of health which Chinese Medicine offers an inspiration.  Its philosophy and approach to understanding the functionality of the body, the health of the individual, has opened a pathway for exploring approaches to help us to relate more to ourselves and others.

My aim is to help patients to be well and stay well using this natural and powerful complementary medicine, which focuses on the personalised treatment of the whole individual. This in turn aims to bring back the unique health of each person, restoring good interconnections between body, mind and spirit. Having a naturally compassionate and caring manner, I work with a wide range of age groups, offering treatment for a broad range of conditions. Before choosing to explore acupuncture I trained and worked as a nurse, later graduated as a Biologist and subsequently completed postgraduate research in Marine Biology. My work with Acupuncture brings the knowledge, skills and sensitivity of  wider training together with the robust methodology, potential for diagnosis and treatment, and holistic perspective of acupuncture. Acupuncture is a vocation, a profession and part of my personal journey.
